Norway
Scenic and awe-inspiring, Norway is a land of legends and gods. With gorgeous fjords and sophisticated cities, Norway’s blend of the traditional and modern will keep you enthralled. The Norwegian people are gracious, welcoming music ensembles with warmth and enthusiasm.
St. Olaf Choir Tour 2013
The St. Olaf Choir is in the early planning stages of a 2013 Norway tour to commemorate their 100th anniversary. Norwegian immigrant F. Melius Christiansen formed this legendary chorus in 1912 starting with just a handful of singers. The choir’s connections to Norway are deep and numerous, built over decades and several previous tours to the country. Most recently, in 2005 the choir joined the St. Olaf Orchestra and the St. Olaf Band on an unprecedented three-week tour of Norway (with Gateway of course!) to celebrate both the Centennial of Norway’s 100 years of independence from Sweden as well as 100 years of friendship and historical legacy between St. Olaf College and Norway. The ensembles performed jointly in Oslo, Bergen, Molde and Trondheim, with each presenting additional concerts throughout the country.
No one needs such historic roots and ties with a country to create a meaningful and memorable tour! Gateway operates tours to all the Scandinavian countries each year and is ready to get creative on an itinerary that’s perfect for you.
Sweden
In Sweden, life is simply to be enjoyed. This attitude befits a land where beauty abounds, from the maze-like cobblestone streets of Stockholm to the magnificent shimmering Northern Lights. Cathedrals, “music high schools” and cultural centers are among the concert venues awaiting touring ensembles.
Denmark
Denmark is a distinct blend of Scandinavian and Continental European cultures. The vibrant city of Copenhagen offers something for everyone. A multitude of magnificent churches, cathedrals, immaculate parks and gardens in Denmark provide an array of concert venues.
Finland
An exciting addition to Norway, Sweden or Denmark, the unique country of Finland is just a ferry ride away. Distinct from its Scandinavian neighbors, Finland traces roots of its language and culture to Eastern Europe, Russia and even Asia. “Hyvää matkaa!” (“Have a good trip!”)
