Linz Invitational Choral Festival - Linz, Austria

  • June 7-11, 2005
  • June 6-10, 2006

The Event

Choir in front of the Alps.

If your choir has wowed everyone at home, it's time to perform on the international stage at the Linz Invitational Choral Festival! Open to outstanding high school and college choirs, this festival features individual choir performances all around Linz, as well as performances with a professional orchestra in the famous Brucknerhaus Concert Hall. Participating choirs are accepted by invitation only, so your promotional material must be received as soon as possible.

The City

As Austria's third largest city, Linz offers a wide array of musical and artistic events year round. Nestled in the beautiful Danube Valley, the city is surrounded by lovely hills, elegant baroque architecture, Medieval castles, and fascinating Old World courtyards. Put simply, this charming city will amaze you! Beyond the rehearsals and performances, groups will also enjoy afternoon tourist excursions in and around Linz, as well as Csesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic.

The Conductor

Dr. Kenneth Fulton will conduct performances with the Linz Festival Chorus and Orchestra. Dr. Fulton holds the Stephanie Landry Barineau Professorship of Choral Music at Louisiana State University and is Chorusmaster/Assistant Conductor for the Baton Rouge Symphony and Symphony Chorus. Dr. Fulton's choruses have completed fourteen European tours including performances in the Vatican, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Mendelssohn Hochschule in Leipzig, and the Tarnow Cathedral in Tarnow, Poland, hometown to the Pope.

How To Qualify

To secure an invitation, the chorus must provide the following. Selected choruses will receive an invitation to participate from the Mayor of Linz!

  • A 10-12 minute tape of the chorus in actual performance. The tape should contain a variety of musical styles and composers, and should be current.
  • A set of programs from one recent school year.
  • A brief resume of the chorus listing performances, contest ratings, and honors for the most recent school year.
  • A brief resume of the conductor.
