Hawaii

You're probably wondering, Why would anyone ever want to travel to Hawaii?, but contrary to popular belief, Hawaii does have a few things to offer (e.g.: perfect climate, myriad of outdoor activities, Pearl Harbor memorials, volcanoes, and fabulous performance opportunities--just to name a few). Perform in the native marvel that is the Polynesian Cultural Center, pay tribute at the memorials to Pearl Harbor, and unwind on some the most beautiful beaches in the world. Hawaii has much to offer beyond the perks of a run-of-the-mill tropical vacation; there are as many educational opportunities as there are beachy activities, and plenty for students and directors alike to learn while visiting this state. Because Gateway brings thousands of travelers to the islands of Hawaii each year, we have established relationships with local vendors, schools, and performance venues. We confidently promise you the best value in the industry. Start honing your ukulele skills now!

Tours Worth Telling About

Lee’s Summit North High School from Lee’s Summit, Missouri brought their band, choir and orchestra to Hawaii last November to commemorate the 69th Anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. While the band prepared for their performance in the Waikiki Holiday Parade, the Concert Choir and Symphony Orchestra participated in clinics at historic Kawaiaha'o Church with Nola Nahulu and Dr. Derrick Yamane. The groups were featured in a Thanksgiving Eve service with the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus. All three ensembles performed together at Pearl Harbor. While visiting the USS Arizona Memorial, the group was very fortunate to meet a Pearl Harbor survivor, and received rare permission from the park rangers to perform a trumpet duet of “Taps”.

Testimonial

“I cannot express how important an administrator's presence can be on a major high school music tour. Administrative presence sends a clear message to the staff, students, and parents: Music matters! I have seen first hand the impact a major tour can have for the positive image of a school. As we left for our trip, our students were interviewed live on a local television news broadcast. The positive association music tours can make for your school in your community, throughout the country and around the globe cannot be overstated. Students have opportunities to create memories that will last a lifetime. Those memories will always be associated with music and the students' time at your school. This engenders a feeling of belonging and loyalty among students that is impossible to duplicate at school.”

Burnsville Senior High School Choirs from Burnsville, Minnesota recently returned from touring Hawaii, the island of Oahu. In addition to performing at Pearl Harbor, the Polynesian Cultural Center and an exchange & clinic with Nola Nahulu and the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus, the choirs set aside time each evening for impromptu performances around Waikiki.

Testimonial

“Having gone on numerous tours with our high school choirs and bands, I can only speak highly of the tremendous benefit achieved by making relationships with students and parents during both the pre-tour process as well as the tour itself. What’s wonderful about attending tours with choir and band students is observing them in an atmosphere outside of the school setting. This is a time for me to witness not only their musically talents but also their positive and refreshing personalities. Without touring with our choirs and bands, I would never have the chance to meet these amazing young men and women.”

Associate Principal, Burnsville Senior High School, MN

New USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center

The USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center is officially open! The original center was designed and built to accommodate approximately 2,000 visitors. However, since its opening nearly 30 years ago, the memorial has grown to become one of Hawaii’s largest tourist attractions with over 4,000 visitors a day. The new facility has three new museums designed to educate visitors about pre-war life in Hawaii and around the world. Until now, precious artifacts, documents, photographs and personal memorabilia had been in storage, never seen by the public. Tribute performances and wreath laying ceremonies in Pearl Harbor continue to be a highlight of our tours to Hawaii.
