We know what those weirdly happy Von Trapp kids were singing about in The Sound of Music, and we'll give you a hint: It wasn't the lederhosen. It's hard not to be excited when you're performing in a place that is at once both staggeringly beautiful and musically fascinating. To visit Austria is to visit the historic cradle of classical music history, to step back in time to medieval castles, Romanesque churches, and baroque palaces, and to enjoy breathtaking alpine scenery and the bustle of some of Europe's most impressive modern cities. It wasn't just Julie Andrews who was inspired to let loose a Do-Re-Mi while in this idyllic locale; great composers and musical masters such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss, Brahms and Hayden each called Austria home. Austria brings classical music to life like no other country, and we'll help you discover the magic it has in store for you. (Lederhosen not included.)
Tours Worth Telling About
The Jefferson High School Band program from Bloomington, Minnesota, travels every single year. Imagine the planning! Luckily, band director Dan Fretland can rely on Gateway to manage the logistics of all his tour plans even as they overlap each year. In 2011, the band toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland where they performed concerts in Salzburg and an exchange with a local school in Munich.Since 2007 when the band began touring with Gateway, they have been to Costa Rica, Italy, the Holiday Bowl and the Outback Bowl. Up next, the Waikiki Holiday Parade in November 2011.
Administrative participation on music tours demonstrates that the music programs are highly valued and seen as an important cultural, social, and academic experiences for our students. Having administration travel with music groups provides a legal ability to work through issues - this gives parents and students a level of comfort on security and safety issues. An important goal of all administrators is to build meaningful relationships with students and families. Spending a significant amount of time with students on these trips really enhances relationships that often can last decades.
